THE
UNIVERSAL ACADEMY
Mission
Statement and Philosophy
The
Universal Academy strives to provide meaningful learning
experiences that stimulate the full development of
each student's intellectual, creative and spiritual
abilities.
The
Universal Academy provides a structured, supportive
learning environment in which the growth of self-esteem,
motivation, and self-confidence is nurtured. The
Academy believes that the development of academic
skills in this supportive atmosphere is the key to
a student's future success in school and life. This
milestone is accomplished with and through the mutual
cooperation, respect, trust and support of the Board
of Trustees, the Director, the staff, the Parents'
Association, and the "Friends of the Academy."
The Academic Programs
The Universal Academy currently offers year-round
early learning classes for infants to preschoolers,
pre-kindergarten, and kindergarten classes, and preparations
to staff a first grade class for the 2005/2006 academic
year are under way. The Academy plans to add an additional
grade level each year until it becomes a fully accredited
preschool and elementary school.
What
makes the Universal Academy unique?
The Universal Academy begins by identifying the
student's specific strengths and needs with an initial
Skills Assessment, a unique combination of standardized
tests, diagnostic tools, and personal interviews.
The results create a detailed profile of the child's
learning style, academic strengths, and needs in
order to facilitate the planning of a personalized
program carefully tailored for each child.
Personalized Programs and Individual
Attention
The Academy's highly trained and credentialed teachers
provide individual attention in an encouraging and
supportive environment that will help the student
excel in the classroom and beyond. Class size is
limited to facilitate one-on-one interactions. Through
the process of mastery learning, the Academy ensures
that the student practices and learns new skills
at a pace that is right for him or her. Students
are taught to master a skill before moving to the
next level. Additionally, the Academy provides written
progress reports and regularly scheduled conferences
so that parents are kept informed of their children's
progress.
